I’ve been thinking of having a ‘staycation’ for a while now, and Hotel Indigo have opened a new branch in Cardiff. I was so excited to be invited to the launch of their new restaurant! I’ve lived in Cardiff for going on 3 years now, and still haven’t managed to explore all of it. It’s always great hearing about new launches in Cardiff. I was super excited to hear that not only was a new hotel coming to Cardiff City centre, it was going to have a Marco Pierre White restaurant attached. I attended a wedding last summer, where we all visited a MPW restaurant the night before, and it really got my hopes up for this one!
Hotel Indigo is a welcome addition to the hotels on offer in the city centre, and definitely makes a change from the usual economy style hotels you’d generally find. I feel Cardiff has a big divide between more luxury hotels like the Hilton, and your good ol’ basic Premier Inn. Hotel Indigo seems to be priced right in the middle, where you can enjoy a lovely night’s stay for a pretty good price!
I was invited to the launch night in January, along with a few other Welsh bloggers! We were greeted by carnival themed dancers on stilts, as well as a prosecco cart and a red carpet. This really showed us that we weren’t in for the usual night out! There was some amazing live music outside as well. Hotel Indigo theme their hotels wherever they’re based, and I loved the foyer of the Cardiff branch. There were plenty of decor items bringing the Welsh theme such as Cwtch cushions and Welsh chocolate on offer. We tried some little nibbles from the restaurant, like parma ham and canapés, which were all fantastic.
We were able to have a tour of the bedrooms on offer at Hotel Indigo. They have 3 main themes: Industry in Wales, Welsh Music and Made in Wales. I absolutely adored the Made in Wales themed rooms. I think my grand-dad would love a stay in one of the Industry rooms! The Music rooms had some stunning furniture made of old music storage cases.
This was definitely the highlight of the night! We were greeted with some amazing cocktails and caught up with some of the lovely bloggers I’d met at other events. I had a quick explore of the rooftop bit but it was far too cold to stay out for long! I’ll definitely be visiting again when it’s warmer. They also had a fantastic magician who completely confused us all and scared Siân by making her ring disappear.
We found a table pretty close to the kitchen (tactical seating!) and proceeded to try at least one of everything that passed us! I absolutely loved the Macaroni & Cheese dish, as well as the little steak pies. My partner made the most of the steak on offer and particularly liked the Peppercorn & Brandy steak sauce. The dessert course went down well with everyone as we tried mini Eton messes & Créme Brulée.
The restaurant is just stunning – I loved the atmosphere as well as the decor. It’s very chic, and is decorated in shades of grey and accented with marble. It has two parts, a restaurant which you can hire, and a bar area that is perfect for classy nights out. I can’t wait to visit this summer and make the most of the roof-top bar!
I really enjoyed my night at MPW at Hotel Indigo. I’m definitely planning a ‘staycation’ there this summer to relax after (hopefully) graduating!
