Marc Jacobs Highliner | Matte Gel Eye Crayon Review | VoxBox

I got home to the best post the other day – the Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir VoxBox* courtesy of Influester! It contained two of their brand new Highliners from the Matte Gel Eye Crayon collection, in the shades Earthquake & Pink Of Me. I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

I’ve previously tried out an older version of their original HighLiner in Black from Sephora. It’s still my go to for a night out as it’s so long lasting. I love knowing it’ll stay on all night without smudging!

The full collection in available online and in store at John Lewis. These eyeliners are £20 each. It’s not bad for a high end eyeliner, especially considering you get a fair amount of product in each. I love the formula of these although they did initially take some getting used to as they have a much longer-wearing formula! They’re waterproof – perfect for the Welsh weather – and glide on super smoothly. They’re a gel formula and once applied, you have about 15 seconds to get them how you want them before they set.

The Highliners come in silver pencils with retractable nibs – great for travelling! I usually prefer applying them when they have a sharper tip. I was happy to find out that they have a hidden sharpener at the end that you can pull out. It’s a nice little extra, and it’s touches like that that makes Marc Jacobs such a luxury brand.

I can’t wait to create some eye looks with these shades. I’m loving the shade Earthquake – a dark brown. This is perfect for creating a more natural cat eye than using a black shade, or all over the lid as a good base for a smoky eye. The other shade is one I would never normally choose but I absolutely love it! I think I’d held back from buying similar shades before because I wasn’t sure how often I’d use them but I was so wrong! Pink Of Me is a gorgeous pale pink shade that is the ideal shade for brightening my waterline or adding a pop of colour along my lid. It’s a really versatile shade and would really pop on darker skin tones.

I love how pigmented these shades are – they are really true to colour & don’t fade at all over the day. I’ve bought cheaper eyeliners before and really struggled with how sharp they felt, as if they were tugging along my eyelid. These ones are really smooth and they just glide on.
